Some people bite their nails as children and then stop for any one of a number of reasons. Others carry on the habit into later life, nibbling away at their nails wherever and whenever they get the chance. If you’re someone who hasn’t managed to kick the habit, here is some help to stop biting your nails.
Pay attention to yourself
Most habits are pretty much on autopilot. So unless someone near you comments on your habit, you may not even realize that you’re biting your nails until they’ve vanished. If that’s the case for you, try to pay attention to yourself, especially when your fingers (or toes if you’re really extreme) get dangerously close to your mouth.
Trim your nails regularly
Ok, there may not be much to trim initially. But keeping your nails pared down with a nail clipper will give you less to gnaw when you’re feeling in need of a small treat. You may also begin to appreciate the smoothness that’s caused by your nail clippers as opposed to the unevenness that is often present when you chew your nails instead.
Listen to a hypnosis track
Your nail biting habit is almost certainly buried deep down in your subconscious. As a conscious being, you know that nail biting isn’t the most attractive character trait you could exhibit but you can rarely stop habits at a conscious level.
Please remember that you should not ever get a nail because you spotted your favourite celebrity with nail design you thought was great.
